چکیده

This report compares the performance of di erent computer systems for basic message passing. Latency and bandwidth are measured on Convex, Cray, Fujitsu, IBM, Intel, KSR, Meiko, nCUBE, NEC, SGI, and TMC multiprocessors. Communication performance is contrasted with the computational power of each system. The comparison includes both shared and distributed memory computers as well as networked workstation clusters.

Stencil Methods on Distributed High Performance Computers

We describe a distributed computational infrastructure for applying kernel operators on arbitrary images. Our primary use for this is the processing of GMS-5 satellite imagery, although there are many possible applications in the areas of general image processing, cellular automata, computational physics and the direct solving of partial differential equations, among others. We discuss the issu...

Fast Message Passing via the ALLCACHE Memory on KSR Computers

A large body of applications have been built which use a message-passing style of inter-process communication. Thus, it is important to be able to support eecient message-passing even on shared-memory computers. Unfortunately, `direct' porting of message-passing packages to shared-memory computers invariably produces unacceptably poor performance. In this paper, we discuss schemes for eeciently...

Parallel Spatial Pyramid Match Kernel Algorithm for Object Recognition using a Cluster of Computers

This paper parallelizes the spatial pyramid match kernel (SPK) implementation. SPK is one of the most usable kernel methods, along with support vector machine classifier, with high accuracy in object recognition. MATLAB parallel computing toolbox has been used to parallelize SPK. In this implementation, MATLAB Message Passing Interface (MPI) functions and features included in the toolbox help u...

Message-Passing Performance of Parallel Computers

In this paper we investigate some of the important factors which aaect the message-passing performance on parallel computers. Variations of low-level communication benchmarks that approximate realistic cases are tested and compared with the available Parkbench codes and benchmarking techniques. The results demonstrate a substantial divergence between message-passing performance measured by low-...

Performance and Power Analysis of RCCE Message Passing on the Intel Single-Chip Cloud Computer

The number of cores integrated on a single chip increases with each generation of computers. Traditionally, a single operating system (OS) manages all the cores and resource allocation on a multicore chip. Intel’s Single-chip Cloud Computer (SCC), a manycore processor built for research use with 48 cores, is an implementation of a “cluster-on-chip” architecture. That is, the SCC can be configur...
